Timothy Sands, Astronautics Professor of the Practice. Recipient of the prestigious Theodore von Kármán award, Dr. Timothy Sands graduated from Columbia University and Stanford University. Yuli D. Chashechkin graduated from the full course in 1964 and completed his postgraduate course at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in 1967 with a degree in Theoretical Nuclear Physics and started to work at the All-Union Institute for Physics- and Radiotechniques Measurements as an engineer, research scientist, head of the laboratory. At the same time, he taught at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute from 1967 to 1971 and at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology from 1973 to 1981. He defended his thesis for the degree of candidate in 1973, and the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences in 1981 and was invited to the Institute for Problems of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR to organize the laboratory of fluid mechanics. From 1987 to 2017, he worked part-time as a professor at the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The range of scientific interests includes theoretical and experimental studies of flows, wakes, vortices, waves, and ligaments - high-gradient interfaced and filaments in inhomogeneous fluids; interaction of obstacles with the flow; generation; propagation and scattering of sound. He develops methods of optical and acoustic visualization of flows. He is the author of over 400 articles, preprints, and reports. He was invited to perform scientific work and lecture at universities in the USA, France, Japan, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and India.

Prof. Dr. Schilling had in space industry responsibility in Earth observation and interplanetary satellites (such as HUYGENS to the Saturnian moon Titan and ROSETTA for exploration of comets, before he was appointed professor and chair for Robotics and Telematics at University Wurzburg. In parallel he is president of the research company „Center for Telematics (ZfT)“. His team built the first German pico-satellite UWE-1, launched 2005 to optimize Internet in space. He published more than 400 papers and received several awards, including the Walter-Reis-Award for Robotic Innovations 2008 (for research in mobile robotics) and 2012 (for medical robotics), an ERC Advanced Grant 2012 for research on control of networked distributed satellite systems and an ERC Synergy Grant 2018 for “Cloud CT” to improve climate models by observations from a formation of 10 small satellites. He was awarded with the Eugen-Sanger-Medal 2021 for his contributions to small satellite technology, as well as „The Global AACII Award“ in 2022. He is full member of the International Academy of Astronautics and was Consulting Professor at Stanford University 2002-2006.

Professor Subrata Roy studies ionized gas physics and its various applications: (1) Atmospheric plasma actuators for flow mixing, propulsion, and turbulent flow control; (2) Hypersonic flows; (3) Space propulsion; and (4) Hydrodynamic models for micro and nanofluidics by incorporating Knudsen’s theory. Prof. Roy is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), a Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Fellow of the ASME, and an Associated Fellow of the AIAA. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board of Nature Scientific Reports and Actuators. He has over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals and bound volumes and holds over 30 patents including one on Wingless Electromagnetic Air Vehicle. Prof. Roy is also a nation-appointed member of the NATO Science and Technology Organisation working group on plasma actuator and signature technologies. Prior to his academic career, he spent several years in the industry. Weidong Zhu is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the founder and director of its Dynamic Systems and Vibrations Laboratory and the Laser Vibrometry Laboratory. He received his double major BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1986, and his MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University and the University of California at Berkeley in 1988 and 1994, respectively. He is a recipient of the 2003 National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the 2007 American Society for Nondestructive Testing Fellowship Award, the 2008 Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professorship in General Mechanics from the Ministry of Education of China, and the 2009 Daily Record’s Maryland Innovator of the Year Award. He is a Fellow of ASME and an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Vibration and Acoustics. His research spans the fields of dynamics, vibration, control, applied mechanics, structural health monitoring, and wind energy, and involves analytical development, numerical simulation, experimental validation, and industrial application.

Hamid Khayyam received his B.Sc. degree (Hons.) from the University of Isfahan, his M.Sc. degree from the Iran University of Science and Technology, and his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Deakin University, Australia. Dr. Khayyam has worked in automation and energy productivity in various industrial companies for more than ten years. In his previous position, he was leading the efforts on modelling, control and optimization of energy systems in the carbon fiber production line at Carbon Nexus, Deakin University. Dr. Khayyam is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, School of Engineering at the RMIT University, Australia. He has contributed more than 100 articles to professional journals and currently serves on several Editorial Boards of ISI journals. Professor Hosseini is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Arkansas Tech University (ATU). He established Combustion and Sustainable Energy Laboratory (ComSEL) at ATU, working on several energy- related projects. Prof. M. De Cesare, PhD, is Senior Researcher in Applied Physics at CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Centre) and Professor in Aerospace Physics Methodologies at University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. He is also PM&SEM in Novel Physics Methodologies for Aerospace Applications and a SEM in Airborne-gamma measurements for Natural and Anthropogenic Environmental Monitoring. His principal applications are based on the development of novel technologies for material and plasma applications in the re-entry vehicle phases. The Diagnostic Methodologies and Measurement Techniques Division at CIRA tests innovative structures for space re-entry vehicles and sustained hypersonic flight and for aeronautical subjected to high thermal gradients. It develops and perfects advanced experimental methods and tools: IR-thermography technique, Spectroscopy, Laser and Ion Beam Analysis applications. The laboratory carries out its tests in two large CIRA facilities, the SCIROCCO and GHIBLI plasma wind tunnels, which simulate the extreme conditions encountered during space re-entries and hypersonic flight.
