Professor Timo Vesikari, MD, PhD, is currently CEO of Nordic Research Network (NRN) company. He has been Director of Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at University of Tampere from 2004 to 2019. His previous positions with the University include Professor of Pediatrics (1981–1987) and Professor of Virology (1991–2012).Timo Vesikari has worked with World Health Organization in 1988–1990 and been a member of many WHO committees over the years. Timo Vesikari is a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases with particular research interest in virology and viral vaccines. His research work has significantly contributed to the introduction of rotavirus vaccine into childhood vaccination programs worldwideand he has conducted many pivotal vaccine trials leading to the licensure and implementation of several other vaccines including live attenuated influenza vaccine, adjuvanted non-live influenza vaccine, varicella vaccine, varicella-MMR combinations and both live and non-live herpes zoster vaccines. He has published over 350 peer reviewed articles and co-edited a textbook on Pediatric Vaccines and Vaccinations (published 2017).Professor Vesikari’s current research interest is development of norovirus vaccines. He is a co-owner of a patent on a combined rotavirus VP6 and norovirus VLP vaccine.

Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld, the founder of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases at the Sheba Medical Center, is a truly unique person: he is a world leader in the research and treatment of autoimmune diseases, with more than 2,150 publications in leading scientific journals and a citation index exceeding 2600 (see, CV pp. 43-171). Prof. Shoenfeldis one of Israel's top physicians and scientists, dedicating his life to two fields: autoimmunity and public health. Hehas already been awarded 24 prizes for his contributions to these fields, including theEular2005 award and the Ometz2016 prize (see, CV.PP.6-7). In fact, these two fields, autoimmunity and public health, converge in Prof. Shoenfeld's medical credo,endeavors, and achievements.This convergence is due to his incessantefforts toward spreading knowledge toboth specialists and the general public. The professional audience is reached viainstituting and organizing major, prestigious internationalconferences on autoimmunity (see CV pp. 8-10), founding and editing the most important journals in his field, and publishing articles, chapters in books as well as textbooks(see CV pp.30-42, and pp.26-30). For the benefit of the general publicthe resulting accumulated knowledge is published in articles, books, and theEncyclopedia of Medicine(see CV.p.27).

Dr. Gilboa, the Joe Enloe Dodson professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, School of Medicine, University of Miami, USA, is known for his pioneering work in gene therapy, HIV/AIDS, and cancer immunotherapy. His group has introduced novel concepts that helped shape these fields, the use of “self-inactivating” retroviral vectors, HIV TAR decoys, and mRNA transfected dendritic cell (DC) vaccines, the precursor of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. More recently, his lab has pioneered the use of oligonucleotide-based ligands to modulate tumor immunity, demonstrating their exceptional efficiency to target siRNAs, aptamers, and small molecule drugs, to the immune system or to tumor lesions. Dr. Gilboa’s lab has introduced new concepts in cancer immunotherapy to promote immune memory, limit immune modulation to tumors, enhance uptake of tumor antigens by dendritic cells and recently, a novel vaccination concept targeting a common set of experimentally induced neoantigens.

Dr. Kari Nadeau is the Naddisy Foundation Endowed Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics and, Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University. She is Section Chief in Asthma and Allergy in the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division at Stanford. She is the Sr. Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Hospital Medicine. For more than 30 years, she has devoted herself to understanding how environmental and immune/genetic factors affect allergies, immune tolerance, and asthma. She and her team are focused in areas of global climate change and health by studying air pollution and wildfire exposures, particularly in underserved areas. As one of the globe’s foremost experts in adult and pediatric allergy, immunology, and asthma, her research is laying the groundwork for a variety of potential future therapies to prevent and cure allergies and asthma. Dr. Nadeau leads a team of specialists spanning allergy, asthma, and immunology across Stanford University. She has been a pioneer in the field of Translational Allergy and Immunology, both defining the mechanism of new therapies and then translating them clinically to make transformative changes for patients and their families. She has led research in oncology, transplant, infectious diseases, COVID, and autoimmune trials and is a member of the National Steering Committee for the intramural clinical research programs at the NIH Immune Tolerance Network. She and her team have been awarded many patents and have started 4 biotech companies in the Bay Area under Stanford patents and has worked in industry to shepherd two drugs through the FDA to approval. She also is an author of the Lancet Countdown in Global Climate Change 2020 and the book: The End of Food Allergy (published 2020). Dr. Nadeau received her MD and PhD from Harvard Medical School through the NIH MSTP program. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and a clinical fellowship in allergy, asthma and immunology at Stanford and at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Nadeau has served as a FDA consultant and a reviewer for NIH Study Sections. Also, she served on the environmental health policy committee for the American Thoracic Society, and serves on the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and is a fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI). She started the Gordon Research Conference for Food Allergy and Chaired the first inaugural conference (2018). She is Chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the NIH Clinical Center (2018-2021). She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), Association of American Physicians (AAP), the medical board of the American Lung Association in California, the Scientific Advisory Board of the EPA, and is currently working with the US Congress, the WHO, International Wildfire Policy Group, CUGH, and CA Governor’s office on Global Climate Change emergency preparedness plans. In addition to her above involvements, Dr. Nadeau contributes on multiple editorial boards for high impact journals and to date published over 300 peer-reviewed publications, and is a reviewer for high impact journals in basic science and clinical medicine (Nature, Nature Medicine, Science, Science Translational Medicine, Lancet, NEJM, JAMA, Allergy, JACI). She is also passionate about breaking down health barriers and creating meaningful change for children and adults in underserved areas and has developed outreach and educational programs with partners in East Palo Alto, Inner City Chicago, Harlem, and San Francisco. Her work has been recognized with numerous grants and awards. She has collaborated with many organizations and institutions. Through FARE, CoFAR, WHO, the United Nations and other partnerships, she collaborates with colleagues from institutions around the globe.

She graduated from the Department of the Physics of Çukurova University in 2006. She has worked at CERN, Geneva during 2008-2010 for her Master thesis. She completed her PhD studies in 2014 in Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain. In 2015, she has started to work at Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, NMMI Radiology Department, Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School as a post-doc. She has worked on a new technique called laser-induced optical barriers (LIOB) technique to improve nuclear medicine imaging devices cost and performance. She has designed a high-performance cardiac SPECT system in a cost-effective manner using the LIOB technique. Recently, she is working on the application of Biomedical Instrumentation using Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis in Engineering and Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. She has been affiliated with Near East University as an Assoc. Prof. in Biomedical Engineering Department since 2016 and DESAM Institute since 2019.

Dr. Lijuan Yuan is a full Professor of Virology and Immunology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. Using gnotobiotic pigs as modelsystems, her laboratory studieshost-pathogen interactions in enteric viral diseases including infectivity, pathogenesis, immunity, and influences of probiotics/prebiotics and gut microbiota,and develops intervention strategies to reduce viral diarrhea including passive prophylactics, therapeutics, and vaccines.Her research achievements have established her as one of a few experts in the world in developingand utilizing gnotobiotic pig models to study human enteric viruses and vaccine-induced immune responses and for pre-clinical evaluation of rotavirus and norovirus vaccines. Silvio Tafuri was born in Brindisi (Italy) on 1980, 17 August. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Bari School of Medicine in 2005; In 2009, he achieved a post-degree in Public Health and since 2013 he is Ph.D. in Hygiene, Public Health and Food Safety. He is a consultant of the Apulian Observatory for Epidemiology in the field of vaccination strategies, surveillance of infectious diseases and of adverse events following immunization. From February 2014 to March 2020, he has been Assistant Professor of Public Health at the School of Medicine in Bari and since March 2020 to April 2021, he was Associate Professor of Public Health. Since April 2021, he is Full Professor of Public Health. He works as consultant in the Public Health Unit of the Policlinico Bari General Hospital, in which he is charged of the management of vaccination activities; since March 2020, he is Chief of the COVID19 Control Room Unit. He is author of 241 articles published in international scientific journals (IF >500, h-index 24); the major part of scientific paper is in the field of vaccinology and of the prevention of infectious diseases.

Dr. Evans is a Professor of Prevention and Community Health and Global Health at the George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH). Dr. Evans earned his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from The Johns Hopkins University, and has published nearly 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, books and chapters on health communication and behavior change interventions. Specifically, Dr. Evans’ work focuses on (a) the translation of marketing and branding strategies into interventions to promote adoption of health behaviors and avoidance of health risk behaviors; (b) the design and evaluation of digital technologies for behavior change; and (c) using these strategies to reduce health disparities.

Ivair R. Silva is a statistician and Professor in the Department of Statistics of the Federal University of Ouro Preto, Brazil, and former post-doc fellow in biostatistics in the Department of Population Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, Boston, USA. His research is mainly concentrated on the development of exact methods for sequential analysis and, in particular, on the derivation of optimal alpha spending plans.
