JEAN-PIERRE CHANGEUX is Honorary Professor at the Collège de France & Pasteur Institute Paris and International Faculty, Kavli Institute for Brain & Mind, University of California San Diego. At the advent of the era of molecular biology, Jean-Pierre Changeux pioneered the study of the role of conformational changes linking topographically distinct sites in regulatory processes. His PhD studies, carried under the supervision of Jacques Monod, provided the experimental and conceptual bases for the formal model of allosteric interactions in regulatory proteins, subsequently put forward in a joint paper that had become one of the most quoted papers of the scientific literature. Throughout a long career, Changeux has consistently built upon and extended his early theory, to spawn many new and flourishing fields of investigation. His main contributions and discoveries in the course of the past 50 years are centered on the general theme of receptors and their allosteric transitions, primarily in the nervous system and were initiated by the first identification of a neurotransmitter receptor: the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. He combined approaches from pharmacology, molecular biology and developmental biology as well as behavioural and pathology to demonstrate that the nicotinic receptor is a bona fide allosteric protein. He further elucidated the molecular mechanism through which drugs modulate receptor efficacy when binding to distinct allosteric sites thereby opening a new avenue in the field of drug discovery. His contributions to understanding the regulation of acetylcholine receptors in turn contributed to advancing our understanding of the nature of long-term synaptic plasticity within neural networks and on the neural bases of cognitive functions up to conscious processing. The consequences for human pathology range from the understanding of drug addiction to the therapeutics of neuropsychiatric diseases. Changeux has authored or co-authored several books notably, Neuronal Man: The Biology of The Mind in 1985, Conversations on Mind Matter and Mathematics with the mathematician Alain Connes (1998), What Makes Us Think with the philosopher Paul Ricoeur (2002), Physiology of truth (2005),The Enchanted Neurons with the composers P.Boulez and P.Manoury (2019) which initiated instructive dialogues between neuroscience and other disciplines. Jean-Pierre Changeux’s academic accolades include the Gairdner foundation award in 1978, the Wolf prize in 1983, the Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine in 1993, the Balzan Prize in 2001, the National Academy of Sciences Award in Neurosciences USA in 2007, the Olav Thon international research award in biomedicine, Oslo, Norway, 2016, the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, Hong Kong, 2018.

Raphael Mechoulam was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1930. His father was a physician and head of the Jewish hospital in Sofia. RM went to an American Grade School in Sofia for 4 years until it was closed by the pro-German government. From 1942, for over 2 years – during the 2nd world war - his family lived in small villages in the Balkans. His parents believed that the family is safer there. Nevertheless his father was taken to a concentration camp for part of this time. RM immigrated to Israel in 1949. He studied biochemistry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (M.Sc.) and the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot (Ph.D.) He spent a year in New York, at the Rockefeller Institute and returned to the Weizmann Institute in 1960. He worked on the chemistry of various natural products. He initiated his work on hashish, which he received from the Police. In 1966 he moved to the Hebrew University, where he became a full professor in 1972. From 1979 to 1982 he was Rector (Academic Head) of the Hebrew University. He retired in 2000 but continued his research. He still has a lab with 3-4 post-doctoral researchers. His work has been mostly on the chemistry of natural products, the best known being on cannabinoids. In collaboration with numerous colleagues in Israel and abroad he has also published in pharmacology and on clinical trials. He has published about 470 scientific papers and have received numerous national and international prizes, including the Israel Prize – the most prestigious Israeli Prize. He is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences, where he headed the Natural Sciences section from 2007 to 2013. He married Dalia (born Borovitch) in 1955 and they have 3 children, Roy, a professor of mathematics at the Technion in Haifa, Hadas, an M.D. ophtalmologist and Dafna, an M.D. pediatric neurologist. He has 7 grandchildren.

Hermona Soreq was trained at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, The Weizmann Institute of Science and the Rockefeller University. At The Hebrew University, she holds a Slesinger Chair in Molecular Neuroscience, is a founding member of the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences and served as the elected Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2005-2008. Soreq pioneered and leads the application of molecular biology and genomics to the study of acetylcholine signaling, with a recent focus on the regulatory rolein cholinergic signaling and the ‘changing of the guards’ concept whereby microRNAs are replaced by transfer RNA fragment controllers in states of acute need for urgent responses; and finds differences in these regulators between men and women brains. Soreq is the elected head of the International Organization of Cholinergic Mechanisms. She has authored hundreds of publications (with 58 in Science, Nature, PNAS, Neuron, EMBO Molecular Medicine and Molecular Psychiatry), was awarded Honorary PhDs in Stockholm, Erlangen and Ben Gurion University and won Teva, Rappaport and Psychoneuroimmunology prizes, the ILANIT-Katzir Prize for outstanding research achievements in the Life Sciences and the Alexander von Humboldt foundation, UC Berkeley and the Berlin NeuroCurecenter fellowships.

Dr. Frederick W. Miller is a Scientist Emeritus at the National Institutes of Health and former Founder and Chief of the Environmental Autoimmunity Group in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at the NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA. He oversees investigators in his group as well as others in national and international consortia that evaluate and conduct a wide range of basic and clinical studies on adult and juvenile autoimmune diseases. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, went on to medical residencies at Emory and Stanford, and then did rheumatology and immunology training at the NIH. His work in the field of autoimmune diseases spans four decades and involves many aspects of the phenotypes, environmental risk factors, epidemiology, immunology, genetics, pathogenesis, evaluation and treatment of immune-mediated diseases. He has focused much of his work on autoimmune muscle diseases. He has received a number of awards of distinction and has authored or co-authored over 300 research publications, reviews, books and book chapters. He co-established and is a Coordinator Emeritus of the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies Group (IMACS). He established the Myositis Genetics Consortium (MYOGEN) to define new genetic risk and protective factors for myositis and is leading many studies to identify environmental risk factors for autoimmunity and systemic autoimmune diseases.

Prof. Laurent Charlet received his PhD in Environmental chemistry at the University of California (Riverside, CA, USA) and did postdoctoral training on nanoparticle surface chemistry and toxicity at the Federal Swiss Water Institute (EAWAG-ETHZ) and at the University Bern, Switzerland where he started coupling the surface chemistry approach with spectroscopic techniques. Full Professor at 35, his research has investigated in close collaboration with biologists (INSERM or NanoHealth Institute, Swansea University, UK) the toxicity of nanomaterials (e.g. Ag or ZnO nanowires) and the role of selenium and selenoproteins either in deficiency induced disorders (neurotoxicological effects, infertility, cartilage disease - Keshin Beck disease in China - or thyroid cancer e.g. in Western Algeria) or as potential cure against ovaraian cancer. His group maintains modern environmental and human cell chemistry laboratories, specialized in nanotoxicology. In most projects it makes use of spectro-imaging techniques, by AFM (cell membrane biomechanics) and synchrotron X- ray tomography and spectroscopic techniques (XAFS). Insights provided by Se triggered methylation on epigenetic process, or by molecular simulation (DFT, MD) of spectroscopic data, are critical to a fundamental understanding of nanoparticles reactivity and cancer cell impact. Dr. Charlet is Distinguished Professor at the University of Grenoble, France, invited Professor at UC-Berkeley (USA), EPFL (CH), University of Utrecht (NL), affiliate at LBNL (Berkeley, USA) and Adjunct Professor at University Waterloo (Canada). His group is represented in numerous French and international scientific and funding bodies. Outreach activities include organization of Workshops (International Medical Geology Association) and Conferences (e.g. Goldschmidt Conference). Dr. Charlet has published > 200 papers in peer- reviewed journals (h index: 70). He has been International Research Advisor, University of Grenoble Chancellor Office, and has received numerous prizes including the French IUF senior award, the CNRS Silver medal for Excellence in Research and the Swansea University Honorary Chair.

Prof. Sladek has been investigating the role of HNF4, a master regulator of liver-specific gene expression, for more than 30 years. She is a Professor of Cell Biology and Toxicologist at the University of California, Riverside where she recently served as Divisional Dean of Life Sciences in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Her current research focuses on the role of HNF4 in diet-induced obesity and colitis using transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic and genomic approaches.

Dr. Farid Menaa is an inter- and multi-disciplinary professional with worldwide reputation. He has three international post-doctoral terms in Oncology, Dermatology, and Hematology; MBA Entrepreneurship and MD candidate. During his ongoing career, he has mainly contributed to the identification and functions of new human disease-causing genes and variants, formulated natural products for anti-aging and developed innovative theranostic strategies against cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and infectious diseases. He has more than 10 years’ experiences either in the academic, hospitals or industrial sectors. As Chief Scientific Officer and Vice-President R&D at Fluorotronics, Inc. he actively participated in the development of the disruptive “Carbon-Fluorine Spectroscopy”. Dr. Menaa collaborates with various organizations worldwide. He is a member of several prestigious medical and scientific organizations and editorial boards in the field of medicine, science, technology and business, including in the nano-segment. He has authored more than 100 articles including research and review articles, books, book chapters, textbooks, proceedings, and has participated to over 200 scientific international events including as co-organizer, keynote speaker, chairman. Dr. Menaa’s worldwide collaborations, holistic point of view and strong expertise in various fields led him to prevent, implement early diagnosis, and develop efficient and safer therapy.

Dimitrios P. Nikolelis received his PhD from University of Athens in 1976 and he is a professor of analytical and environmental chemistry in Department of Chemistry, University of Athens. Prof. Dimitrios Nikolelis has coordinated 3 European Projects on environmental biosensors (CIPA96-0231, IC15-CT96-0804 and QLK3-2000-01311). He also was twice a. NATO Director in the following Advanced Research Workshops: 1. Biosensors for Direct Monitoring of Environmental Pollutants in Field, Smolenice, Slovakia,: May 1996 and 2. Portable biosensors for the Rapid Detection of Biochemical Weapons of Terrorism, July 2012. Prof. Dimitrios Nikolelis has over 200 scientific papers in scientific journals and conferences. He is the Editor of 5 books on Biosensors (1. Biosensors for Direct Monitoring of Environmental Pollutants in Field, Springer, 1996, 2. Portable Chemical Sensors- Weapons against Bioterrorism, Springer, 2012 and 3. Portable Biosensing of Food Toxicants and Environmental Pollutants, CRC, 2013 3. 4. Biosensors for Security and Bioterrorism Applications, Springer, 2014. 5. Nanotechology and biosensors: recent advances, Elsevier, 2017. He is the Editor of many scientific journals. His research is targeted on the fabrication of portable biosensors for in the field uses and he has authored a large number of scientific papers on the detection of environmental pollutants such as hydrazines, dioxins, insecticides, toxins, etc. His current interests also include the construction of novel chemical nanosensors that can be used for the rapid detection of environmental pollutants directly in the gas phase. Prof. D. P. Nikolelis group has recently utilized graphene and ZnO to develop chemical nanosensors based on polymer lipid films for species of clinical or food significance such as urea, uric acid, cholesterol, etc. In progress, there is the evaluation and validation of nanosensors that are based on stabilized polymerized lipid films supported on glass fiber filters using a dry spot test using optical methods of analysis (i.e., fluorescence) to detect environmental pollutants such as insecticides, plant hormones, toxins, hydrazines, etc.

Jürgen Gailer was born in Geislingen and der Steige/Germany in 1967. He obtained his PhD from the University of Graz/Austria in 1997. As an Erwin Schrödinger Fellow he moved to the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of Arizona (Tucson/United States) and subsequently to the Department of Nutritional Sciences as a PDF research associate. As an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow he embarked on another PDF at the GSF National Research Center for Environment and Health (Munich/Germany) in 2001 and became Team Leader in Biopharmaceutical Production at Boehringer Ingelheim Austria/Vienna in 2002. He joined the University of Calgary in 2004, where he is co-appointed in the Department of Chemistry and the BSc Environmental Science Program. His research aims at developing and applying novel instrumental analytical methods to better understand the bioinorganic chemistry of non-essential metal species, such as cadmium and mercury in the bloodstream with the aim to potentially linking this chemistry to the etiology of human diseases. Another research goal is to establish the biomolecular basis of the severe side effects of established metal-based anticancer drugs and to help accelerate more selective metal-based drugs to preclinical studies.

Prof. Stefania Marzocco PhD for two years developed a graduation thesis in experimental pharmacology at the Department of Experimental Pharmacology of the University of Naples “Federico II”(1996) obtaining degree in Pharmacy (1998). In 2001 obtained the title of Specialist in "Farmacia Ospedaliera" and in 2005 the PhD in "Biochimica e patologia dell'azione dei farmaci" at the University of Salerno - Italy. In 2005 she became Assistant Professor in Pharmacology and in 2020 Associate Professor in Pharmacology at the University of Salerno, Dept. of Pharmacy. The main fields of interest of Prof. Marzocco regard the study of inflammation and oxidative stress in chronicdiseases, with particular attention to new pharmacological targets and new drugsusing both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. Moreover, in collaboration with clinicians collegues, she is aslo involved in clinical protocols for these studies. For her researches she also moved at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine and Pharmacology, at the University of Messina (Italy) and then at the Department of Neurology, University Medical Center Hamburg –Eppendorf (Germany)” and at the Faculty of Pharmacy, CBB center - University of Innsbruck(Austria). Moreover, she is involved, with other italian and foreigner research groups, also in the pharmacological research of nutraceutical products as well as of natural and synthesis molecules for the control of inflammation and oxidative stress conditions.Herscientific production is confirmed by numerous participation to national and international congresses, as speaker, by 104 papers published on scientific journals with well known impact factor, and by 4 volume contribution.

Margarita C. Curras-Collazo completed her Ph.D in Medical Physiology from The Ohio State University and postdoctoral studies in neuropharmacology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and at Emory University. She is a Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Molecular, Cell & Systems Biology at the University of California, Riverside. Research in the Curras-Collazo lab focuses on environmental toxicant models of autism and diabetes, and gut-brain signaling underlying Gulf War Illness. She has published more than 45 papers in reputed journals and her research has helped shape consumer and scientific initiatives promoting toxicant regulatory and legislative action. Dr. Curras-Collazo has served as an editorial board member for American Journalof Physiology and BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology, and as grant reviewer for the National Science Foundation, American Heart Association, Department of Defense as well as international agencies. She has also won several teaching and mentoring awards and is currently serving as Councilor for the American Physiological Society.

Dr. Alessandro Di Cerbo is currently working as Researcher at the University of Camerino, School of Bioscience and Veterinary Medicine. He obtained the bachelor degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University Vita-salute San Raffaele (Milan, Italy) in 2005. In 2007 he achieved the Master degree in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) and in 2011 he obtained the PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the same University. In 2016 he got the Specialization (with honors) in Clinical Biochemistry at University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti (Italy). He is member of the editorial board many reputed journals (Frontiers in veterinary Medicine, BMC Veterinary Research, Pharmaceuticals, Biology, Veterinary and Animal Science). His scientific activities are highly interdisciplinary, ranging from nanotechnology to nanomedicine, toxicology, nutrition and translational medicine. He also published more than 70 papers in reputed journals.

Xiaohua Teng, professor, doctoral supervisor, and "Outstanding Scholars" in Northeast Agricultural University (Harbin, China). Her main research interests are environmental toxicology on animals (including fish and poultry). She once served as the team leader of “Livestock and Poultry Environment Discipline” in Northeast Agricultural University and the discipline leader a key discipline of Heilongjiang Province (China) on “Animal Husbandry System Management”. At present, she is an expert in the project evaluation of the National Nature Fund (China), an expert in the evaluation of doctoral and master's thesis, as well as excellent doctoral graduation thesis of the degree center of the Ministry of Education (China), a vice president of the branch of “Livestock Ecology of China” of “Aanimal Husbandry and Veterinary Society” (China), an expert of “the International Cooperation Committee on Animal Welfare of China Association, and an executive director of Heilongjiang Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Society, Member of Heilongjiang Agricultural Rural Reform and Development Soft Science Research Committee, an evaluation expert of Heilongjiang Educational Science Planning, and an expert of Heilongjiang Educational Science Planning Office in the 12th Five Year Plan and the 13th Five Year Plan. She was a chairman, member, sub venue host of the academic committee of international conference and specked at many academic conferences. She presided over, guided, and participated in 28 projects of NSFC and other scientific research topics and won 9 scientific research awards. Wei Zhang, Associate professor,associate dean, an outstanding young talent at Institute of Environmental Research at Greater Bay, Guangzhou University, China. My research interests focus on ecological toxicology, toxic effects and regulatory mechanisms study of environmental pollutants, especially arsenic.I have hosted 13 projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Outstanding Youth Fund of Guangdong Province. I was awarded the “Chinese Academy of Sciences Dean-Excellence Award” and “Outstanding Doctoral Candidate of the Chinese Academy of Sciences” in 2012, the title of “Pearl River Science and Technology New Star” in Guangzhou in 2017, and the "Guangzhou University 100-Talents Project of Outstanding Young Talents" in 2018, and the “outstanding Youth Fund of Guangdong Province” in 2021. I have published 50 research papers (33 first authors/corresponding authors) in mainstream journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology,and Journal of Hazardous Materials. Dr. Chiara Colarusso is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Pharmacology for the research project ‘In vivo and in vitro studies of molecular and cellular mechanism/s underlying ICI’s (immune-checkpoint inhibitor) resistance in lung cancer patients’ at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno, under the mentorship of Professor Rosalinda Sorrentino. Her first research experience as a bachelor student was in the lab of Experimental Pharmacology and Preclinical Studies under the supervision of Professor Aldo Pinto (April 2015-July 2016). She was able to contribute to the published data “IL-1α and IL-1β-producing macrophages populate lung tumor lesions in mice” for the thesis work. She obtained the bachelor degree in Pharmacy in July 2016 at the University of Salerno. In November 2016, she was enrolled as a PhD student in the PhD program ‘Drug Discovery and Development-XXXII cycle’ under the mentorship of Prof. Pinto and Prof. Sorrentino. During her PhD training she was Academic Visitor at the Laboratory for Molecular Respiratory Carcinogenesis at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Patras, Greece, under the supervision of Prof. Georgios Stathopoulos (October 2018-September 2019). Her PhD thesis (2020) was on the role of the inflammasome at the crosstalk between COPD and lung cancer, identifying AIM2 inflammasome as one of the orchestrator for the establishment of cancer in the lung in smokers, by using both experimental mouse models and clinical samples. Her actual scientific interest is on the molecular/cellular mechanisms involved in chronic lung inflammation at the basis of lung diseases, such as COPD and lung cancer. In particular, she is being focusing on the inflammasome-dependent pathwayspuzzling from the process of lung cancer establishment up to progressionthat occurs after therapeutic treatment. In this regard, another goal she is trying to reach is to understand cellular and molecular mechanism/s at the basis of ICI’s resistance in lung cancer patients.

Kirill Tkachenko – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Prof. In 1979 graduated from the Kazakh State University (Almaty, USSR). He has worked at the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) since 1979. The main areas of his scientific interests are a diverse study – essential oil (aromatic) and medicinal plants. Studies conducted by Prof. K.G. Tkachenko, mainly concerned with the study of individual growth and development (ontogeny) of plants, the characteristics of flowering (antecology), fruits and seeds quality (different aspects of the latent period, germination, heterocarpous, heterosermia, conditions and duration of seed storage, seed viability, fruit and seed quality, fluoroscopy (R-x) of seeds and fruits). At different times he organized the study of the accumulation, isolation and determination of the component composition of the essential oils of plants of a number of species of the families Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Lamiaceae and species of several other families. He carried out studies on the biological activity of essential oils - antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral activity of the extracted essential oils was shown. In 1986 he defended his thesis for PhD. In 2013 he defended his doctoral dissertation. Since 1987, Prof. K. Tkachenko leads the group of introductions of useful plants and since 2007 he also leads the seed laboratory at the Peter the Great Botanical Garden of the Komarov Botanical Institute. Now his position is Professor. Prof. K. Tkachenko is a member of the editorial boards of several Russian and some foreign scientific journals. He is an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of medicinal, aromatic plants and seed science issues. Prof. K. Tkachenko is the author of several patents, a number of monographs (25) about medicinal and aromatic plants, and scientific articles (approximately 250). He often makes scientific reports at international scientific events (conferences, congresses etc.).

Dr. Martínez is a surgeon and medical director of Alternative Medicine in Chia, Colombia. As a research physician, he is the author of several articles on holistic medicine and infectious diseases.
