Dr. Zengtao Chen joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Alberta as a Professor in August 2014. Dr. Jing Tao Wang, graduated in 1982 and obtained a PhD degree from Northeast PolytechnicInstitute, China in 1990. He devotes on investigations on Ultrafine-grained and Nanostructured metal materials since 1992 and chaired the 5th International Conference on Nanostructured Materials by Severe Plastic Deformation in Nanjing China, together with Prof. T.G. Langdon in 2011. His research interest focuses on the Restructuring of Materials by Deformation (REMADE), and the novel materials prepared to meet the new challenges in extreme service environment. He developed the Principle of tube high-pressure shearing (t-HPS) and explored the new possibilities in REMADE, such as one-step synthesis of multilayered structures, high strength bulk nano-lamellar materials, and deformo metallurgyprocessesto synthesize bulk alloys from bulks of alloying elements via t-HPS in one step. He also organized the National Center for International Research on Micro & Nano Materials. The center is equipped with 3D atomic probe, cs-correction TEM, helium ion microscope, Nano CT and other state-of-the-art characterization facilities, providing both structural and chemical precise characterization from micro down to atomic scale, and establishing international research environment for the materialization of creative ideas from all over the world.

Kenjiro Tadakuma holds an Associate Professorship at Tohoku University in the field of robotics, where he has been leading the Plus Ultra Mechanism Group since 2015. Throughout his career, he has made outstanding contributions to the design of novel robotic mechanisms. As a Ph.D. student at Tokyo Tech (2004 – 2007), he invented the first omnidirectional mechanism, known as “Omni-Ball”. This brought him to MIT’s Field and Space Robotics laboratory as a post-doctoral researcher (2007), where he went on to contribute to the Mars hopper project and developed polymer-based mechanical device for medical applications. Back in Japan, he held positions at Tohoku University, the University of Electro-Communications, and Osaka University (2008 – 2015), where he expanded on the concept of omnidirectional mechanisms with successful applications in mobile robotics and gripping mechanisms, such as the “Omni-Crawler” and “Omni-Gripper”. At Tohoku University, he is further aiming to extract the essence of biological mechanisms to express them as robotic mechanisms. Notably, his team won the IEEE ICRA Best Paper Award on Mechanisms and Design in 2019. The nature of his inventions illustrates his deep focus in pioneering the field of robotics mechanisms as a fundamental science.

Professor Young-Jin Cha, Dep. of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba from 2014, received his Ph.D. (2008) from Texas A&M University in the Dep. of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Yossi Bukchin is a faculty member in the Industrial Engineering Dept. at Tel Aviv University. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and D.Sc. Dr. Slavenko Stojadinović is associate professor at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Republic of Serbia. Alan McGibney, received his PhD in Electronic Engineering from the Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland in 2008. During the same periods, he has lectured in the business schools and/or industrial engineering departments of worldwide known universities. Currently, he is a faculty in the Industrial Engineering Department of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, in addition to the running of IMECO (Industrial Management and Engineering Consulting – which is the affiliates of well-known US consulting companies.) Additionally, he is the founder president of Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers – Turkish professional chapter; and the board member of Institute of High-Performance Planners which is established by Richard Muther. During his long career path, as an industrial engineering and management professional, consultant, academician, and trainer, he has completed and participated in above 100 professional industrial engineering and management projects (especially in Strategic Planning, Facilities Design, Operations Improvement, Process Reengineering) and developed and deployed many training programs and workshops to over 200 corporations and universities with several million dollars-worth of result-based solutions.
