Thomas J. Webster’s (H index: 94) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995) and in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (M.S., 1997; Ph.D., 2000). He is currently the Art Zafiropoulo Chair and Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, but has also been a professor at Purdue and Brown Universities. Emeritus Prof. Aharon Gedanken obtained his M. Sc. from Bar-Ilan University, and his Ph. D. degree from Tel Aviv University, Israel. After his postdoctoral research at USC in Los Angeles, he returned to Bar-Ilan in 1975 as a senior faculty. He was a visiting scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1980-8l, 1984, and 1987-88, and at NIDDK, NIH in the summers of 1989, 1990 and 1991. In 1994 he switched his research interest from Spectroscopy to Nanotechnology. His special synthetic methods of nanomaterials include: Sonochemistry, Microwave Superheating, Sonoelectrochemistry, and Reactions under Autogenic Pressure at Elevated Temperatures (RAPET). Since 2004 he is mostly focused on the applications of nanomaterials. Gedanken has published 782 per-reviewed manuscripts in international journals, and has applied for 38 Patents. His H-Index is 84. Gedanken has served as the Department chairman as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences at Bar-Ilan University. He is on the editorial boards of 7 international journals. He leads a group of 12 research people. He was a partner in five EC FP7 projects one of them, SONO, was coordinated by him. This project was announced by the EC as a “Success Story”. He was the Israeli representative to the NMP (Nano, Materials, and Processes) committee of EC in FP7. Dr. Iam Choon Khoo received his Ph. D. in Physics [Quantum Optics] from the University of Rochester. He is currently the W. E. Leonhard Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. He is a Life Fellow of IEEE, and Fellow of The Optical Society (OSA), UK Institute of Physics and The Electromagnetic Academy. He has previously served a three-year term as Vice President of Technical Affair [IEEE Photonic Society, and as Chair of the United States Advisory Committee/International Commission for Optics [US National Academies (Sciences and Engineering)]. He is the author, co-author of ~ 300 technical publications, and several books on liquid crystal optical physics and nonlinear optics.

Wei-Yin Sun graduated from East China Normal University, China in 1986 and received his PhD degree from Osaka University, Japan in 1993. Since 1996 he has been a Professor at Nanjing University, where he pursues his research on coordination chemistry with interests in metal-organic architectures and their related nano/micromaterials with specific structures and properties. He has published more than 350 research papers. He is now Advisory Board of CrysEngComm, Editorial Board of J. Coord. Chem., Associate Editor of Chinese Chem. Lett., Executive Associate Editor of Chinese J. Inorg. Chem. and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) since 2014.

Prof. Jordi Arbiol graduated in Physics at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 1997, he went on to obtain his PhD in transmission electron microscopy applied to nanostructured materials from this same university in 2001, earning the “European Doctorate” label in recognition of the project’s European dimension, as well as the university's extraordinary doctorate award. He then held the position of assistant professor at the UB, before becoming a, ICREA Professor and group leader at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona in 2009, as well as the scientific supervisor of this institute’s electron microscopy facility. It was here that Prof. Arbiol began his personal and professional mission to improve Barcelona’s baseline electron microscopy infrastructure, a goal he has continued to pursue at the ICN2, which he joined in 2015 as ICREA Professor and leader of the ICN2 Advanced Electron Nanoscopy Group. Since 2017 he is President of the Spanish Microscopy Society (SME), was Vice-President from 2013 to 2017 and since 2009 he is Member of its Executive Board. In 2018 he was elected as Member of the Executive Board of the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy (IFSM) (2019-2026). In 2014 he was awarded with the EU40 Materials Prize 2014 (E-MRS), he received the 2014 EMS Outstanding Paper Award and was listed in the Top 40 under 40 Power List (2014) by The Analytical Scientist. Javier García de Abajo received his PhD from the University of the Basque Country in 1993 and then visited Berkeley National Lab for three years. He was a Research Professor at the Spanish CSIC and in 2013 moved to ICFO-Institut de Ciencies Fotoniques (Barcelona) as an ICREA Research Professor and Group Leader. He is Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America. García de Abajo has co-authored 400+ articles cited 30,000+ times with a h index of 93 (June 2020 WoK data), including contributions on different aspects of surface science, nanophotonics, and electron microscope spectroscopies.

Dr. Raul Arenal received his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from U. Paris-Sud (France, 2005) and in 2013, he obtained his Habilitation (HDR) also at this University. From 2005 to 2007, he joined the Electron Microscopy Center in Argonne National Lab. (ANL, USA) as post doctoral fellow. In 2007, he became research scientist (Chargé de Recherches) at the CNRS (France; LEM, ONERA-CNRS). From 2010 to 2011, he was visiting scientist (sabbatical position) at the Laboratorio de Microscopias Avanzadas (LMA) at the Instituto de Nanociencia de Aragon (INA) of the Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain). Since 2012, Dr. Arenal is on leave from the CNRS, and he is currently ARAID research scientist at the LMA-INA-U. Zaragoza. Since 2018, he is the Director of the TEM area of the LMA-INA. In 2017, Dr. Arenal has been elected member of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) and also from this year he has been elected at the board of the YAE. Dr. Arenal is also member of the board of the Spanish Microscopy Society (SME; 2013-2021). Aleandro Antidormi is a senior Post-Doctoral Researcher at Catalan Institute of NanoScience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Barcelona, Spain. He received a BS in Electronic Engineering in 2010 and an MS in computer engineering in 2012, both from Politechnic University of Turin, Italy. He received a PhD in Electronic and Telecommunications engineering also from Politechnic University of Turin in 2015. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Physics Department at University of Cagliari (Italy) before joining ICN2 in 2018. His current research focuses on charge and heat transport in graphene and other two-dimensional materials.

Cecília de Carvalho Castro e Silva graduated in Chemistry from Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM) in 2008 and her master (2011) and PhD (2015) degree in Chemistry was at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. During her PhD studies, she was a visiting researcher at the Department of Materials and Engineering at Rutgers University, USA 2013-2014. Since January 2016, she has been assistant professor at MackGraphe - Graphene and Nanomaterials Research Center, São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, she is a visiting professor in the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Barcelona, Spain. Cecilia was included by Forbes-Brazil in the list “30 Under 30”, of the 30 most talented youngsters under 30 years in 2016, due the microchip that she developed during her PhD studies for detection of breast cancer biomarkers, based on graphene FETs. She has expertise in synthesis, functionalization and characterization of nanomaterials, electrochemical devices, microfabrication techniques, development of miniaturized devices based on nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene FETs for biosensing applications. The research interests and goals of Cecilia are in the employment of 2D materials in the development of flexible and portable devices for biosensing and energy conversion.

Prof. Josep Nogués is the group leader of the Magnetic Nanostructures Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology since 2006. He obtained his PhD from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) in 1993. After over 4 years as a post-doc at the University of California San Diego, in 1997 he settled at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In Oct. 2001 he obtained an ICREA Research Professor position. Prof. Nogués has extensively worked on the magnetic characterization of different types of materials, particularly nanoparticles and nanostructures. Moreover, in recent years he has been involved in the study of magnetoplasmonic nanostructures. He is currently involved in two projects dealing with the biomedical applications of magnetic and magnetoplasmonic nanostructures. Prof. Nogués has published over 240, which have been cited more than 17000 times (currently with an h-index of 57). Moreover, his work has resulted in over 230 invited talks and he currently holds 3 patents. Prof. Nogués is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and has been an Associated Editor for Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and IEEE Magnetics Letters.

Alfredo de la Escosura-Muñiz holds a PhD in Chemistry (2006) from the University of Oviedo (Spain). Most of his post-doctoral career has been spent at Prof. Merkoçi’s group at ICN2 (Barcelona, Spain), where he specialized in Nanobiosensors. He has participated in +20 national and international projects and is the coauthor of over 70 scientific publications (+2000 citations; h-index: 28) and four patents. As of June 2018 he holds a Ramon y Cajal Research Fellowship in the Nanobioanalysis Group, Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry, University of Oviedo, where he is also a Lecturer in Chemistry. His research interests focus on the development of biosensing systems based on nanoparticles and nanochannels for point-of-care diagnostic applications.
