Professor Sir Tom Blundell, FRS, FMedSci, Department of Biochemistry at Cambridge University, UK Tom Blundell is a Director of Research in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, where he was between 1996 and 2009 Sir William Dunn Professor and Chair of School of Biological Sciences. He has previously held positions in the Universities of London, Sussex and Oxford. Tom began his research career in Oxford, working with Nobel Laureate Dorothy Hodgkin on the first structure of a protein hormone, insulin. He has made major breakthroughs on the structural and computational biology and biophysics of hormones and growth factors (insulin, glucagon, NGF, HGF, FGF), receptor activation, signal transduction and DNA repair, important in cancer, tuberculosis and familial diseases. He has produced many widely used software packages for protein modelling and design, including Modeller (~12,500 citations) and Fugue (~1400 citations), and for predicting effects of mutations on protein stability and interactions (SDM & mCSM), to understand cancer & drug resistance. He has published ~650 research papers, including ~40 in Nature and Science, and has an H-factor of 119. Tom has developed new approaches to structure-guided and fragment-based drug discovery. In 1999 he co-founded Astex Therapeutics, an oncology company that has several drugs in clinical trials and two on the market and that was sold in 2013 as Astex Pharma to Otsuka for $886 million. In parallel in the University of Cambridge he has developed structure-guided fragment-based approaches to drug discovery for difficult targets involving multiprotein systems and protein-protein interactions. He has also been targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteins as part of the Gates HIT-TB consortia, M leprae for American Leprosy Mission and M. abscessus for Cystic Fibrosis Trust, including structural and biochemical studies of resistance mutations to first-line drugs. Tom was a member of PM Margaret Thatcher’s Advisory Council on Science & Technology (1988-1990), Founding CEO of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, 1991-1996 (Chair 2009-2015), Chairman, Royal Commission on Environment (1998-2005), Deputy Chair of Institute of Cancer Research 2008-2015 and President of UK Science Council, 2011- 2016.

JEAN-PIERRE CHANGEUX is Honorary Professor at the Collège de France & Pasteur Institute Paris and International Faculty, Kavli Institute for Brain & Mind, University of California San Diego. At the advent of the era of molecular biology, Jean-Pierre Changeux pioneered the study of the role of conformational changes linking topographically distinct sites in regulatory processes. His PhD studies, carried under the supervision of Jacques Monod, provided the experimental and conceptual bases for the formal model of allosteric interactions in regulatory proteins, subsequently put forward in a joint paper that had become one of the most quoted papers of the scientific literature. Throughout a long career, Changeux has consistently built upon and extended his early theory, to spawn many new and flourishing fields of investigation. His main contributions and discoveries in the course of the past 50 years are centered on the general theme of receptors and their allosteric transitions, primarily in the nervous system and were initiated by the first identification of a neurotransmitter receptor: the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. He combined approaches from pharmacology, molecular biology and developmental biology as well as behavioural and pathology to demonstrate that the nicotinic receptor is a bona fide allosteric protein. He further elucidated the molecular mechanism through which drugs modulate receptor efficacy when binding to distinct allosteric sites thereby opening a new avenue in the field of drug discovery. His contributions to understanding the regulation of acetylcholine receptors in turn contributed to advancing our understanding of the nature of long-term synaptic plasticity within neural networks and on the neural bases of cognitive functions up to conscious processing. The consequences for human pathology range from the understanding of drug addiction to the therapeutics of neuropsychiatric diseases. Changeux has authored or co-authored several books notably, Neuronal Man: The Biology of The Mind in 1985, Conversations on Mind Matter and Mathematics with the mathematician Alain Connes (1998), What Makes Us Think with the philosopher Paul Ricoeur (2002), Physiology of truth (2005),The Enchanted Neurons with the composers P.Boulez and P.Manoury (2019) which initiated instructive dialogues between neuroscience and other disciplines. Jean-Pierre Changeux’s academic accolades include the Gairdner foundation award in 1978, the Wolf prize in 1983, the Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine in 1993, the Balzan Prize in 2001, the National Academy of Sciences Award in Neurosciences USA in 2007, the Olav Thon international research award in biomedicine, Oslo, Norway, 2016, the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, Hong Kong, 2018.

Ewan Birney is Deputy Director General of EMBL and Director of EMBL-EBI. Ewan completed his PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute with Richard Durbin. In 2000, he became Head of Nucleotide data at EMBL-EBI and in 2012 he took on the role of Associate Director at the institute. He became Director of EMBL-EBI in 2015. Ewan led the analysis of the Human Genome gene set, mouse and chicken genomes and the ENCODE project, focusing on non-coding elements of the human genome. Ewan’s main areas of research include functional genomics, DNA algorithms, statistical methods to analyse genomic information (in particular information associated with individual differences in humans and Medaka fish) and use of images for chromatin structure. Ewan is a non-executive Director of Genomics England, and a consultant and advisor to a number of companies, including Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Dovetail Genomics and GSK. Ewan was elected an EMBO member in 2012, a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014 and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2015. He has received a number of awards including the 2003 Francis Crick Award from the Royal Society, the 2005 Overton Prize from the International Society for Computational Biology and the 2005 Benjamin Franklin Award for contributions in Open Source Bioinformatics. On December 29, Ewan Birney was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for 2019. Ewan received the honour in recognition of his services to computational genomics and leadership across the life sciences.

Education: Received M.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963 and Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1965 in the United States. He was awarded M.D. (Hon) from Charles University, Prague in 1995 and D.Sc. (Hon) from Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava in 1997, Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2009, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in 2010, University of Kragujevac, Serbia in 2014, and University of Buenos Aires in 2015. He has also received Honorary Professorship from 4 different Universities. Professional Career: Served as Assistant Professor at the St. Louis University for 2 years and then moved to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1968 where he has been working in the field of Experimental Cardiology for the past 53 years. He served first as Head and then as Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences for 19 years. His expertise lies in the area of subcellular and molecular basis of heart function in health and disease. Research Activities: Has published 842 full length papers and reviews as well as 642 abstracts. His research work has been cited more than 30, 606 times with h-index of 81 as of May 4, 2021. He has edited or authored 61 books in the area of heart research. He has trained 166 fellows and students who are carrying out independent research around the globe. He has been invited to speak at 531 national and international conferences as well as academic institutions. Professional Activities: Has been actively engaged in promoting the scientific basis of cardiology over the past 48 years. He has served the International Society for Heart Research as Secretary General and President for 24 years. Since 1996, he is serving as Executive Director and was elected as Honorary Life President of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences for promoting educational activities all over the world. For the past 34 years, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of an international journal "Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry" and is currently serving on the Editorial Boards of 9 other international journals. Professional Recognition: Has received 202 honours and awards from many countries including the Order of Canada, Order of Manitoba, Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada, Medal of Honour of the Canadian Medical Association, Research Achievement Award of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. He has been granted Coat of Arms by the Canadian Heraldic Authority and chosen as the 2nd Greatest Manitoban of all-time. His “bust” has been installed in the Citizens Hall of Fame in Winnipeg. He is inducted in the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame as 2019 Laureate.

He works at the discovery of factors and signals involved in the regeneration of the neuromuscular junction and at the clarification of the mode of action of the neuroparalytic toxins causing Tetanus or Botulism and of snake PLA2 neurotoxins. He has carried out research in the Universities of Cambridge, Utrecht, and Costa Rica, the Institut Pasteur of Paris and the EMBL of Heidelberg. He has studied the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of diseases caused by toxin producing pathogenic bacteria (anthrax, botulism, tetanus, Helicobacter pylori) and by poisonous snakes and insects. Major discoveries were: a) the identification and characterization of the metalloprotease activity of the neurotoxins responsible for tetanus and botulism, b) the identification of their proteins targets (SNAREs) including sites of cleavage and mechanism of specific recognition, c) the metalloprotease activity and target of the anthrax lethal factor, d) the mechanism of action of two major virulence factors of H. pylori: VacA and NapA, e) the mechanism of action of the snake presynaptic PLA2 neurotoxins, f) the discovery that the axis CXCL12 - CXCR4 controls axonal growth in peripheral neurons g) identification of drugs that prevent botulism and a drug that promotes regeneration of the neuromuscular junction after damage. He has received several scientific prizes, including the Harvard Medical School Shipley Prize for Medicine 1993, the Biotech Prize 1998, the Feltrinelli Prize for Medicine 2004, the Redi Award 2009, the Hatheway Medal 2009; the Ehrlich Prize for Medicine 2011 and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Neurotoxin Association in 2019. Prof. Kenneth A. Jacobson Dr. Jacobson is Chief of the Molecular Recognition Section in the Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Dr. Jacobson is a medicinal chemist with interests in the structure and pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors, in particular receptors for adenosine and for purine and pyrimidine nucleotides. He obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Kari Nadeau is the Naddisy Foundation Endowed Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics and, Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University. She is Section Chief in Asthma and Allergy in the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division at Stanford. She is the Sr. Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Hospital Medicine. For more than 30 years, she has devoted herself to understanding how environmental and immune/genetic factors affect allergies, immune tolerance, and asthma. She and her team are focused in areas of global climate change and health by studying air pollution and wildfire exposures, particularly in underserved areas. As one of the globe’s foremost experts in adult and pediatric allergy, immunology, and asthma, her research is laying the groundwork for a variety of potential future therapies to prevent and cure allergies and asthma. Dr. Nadeau leads a team of specialists spanning allergy, asthma, and immunology across Stanford University. She has been a pioneer in the field of Translational Allergy and Immunology, both defining the mechanism of new therapies and then translating them clinically to make transformative changes for patients and their families. She has led research in oncology, transplant, infectious diseases, COVID, and autoimmune trials and is a member of the National Steering Committee for the intramural clinical research programs at the NIH Immune Tolerance Network. She and her team have been awarded many patents and have started 4 biotech companies in the Bay Area under Stanford patents and has worked in industry to shepherd two drugs through the FDA to approval. She also is an author of the Lancet Countdown in Global Climate Change 2020 and the book: The End of Food Allergy (published 2020). Dr. Nadeau received her MD and PhD from Harvard Medical School through the NIH MSTP program. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and a clinical fellowship in allergy, asthma and immunology at Stanford and at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Nadeau has served as a FDA consultant and a reviewer for NIH Study Sections. Also, she served on the environmental health policy committee for the American Thoracic Society, and serves on the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and is a fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI). She started the Gordon Research Conference for Food Allergy and Chaired the first inaugural conference (2018). She is Chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the NIH Clinical Center (2018-2021). She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), Association of American Physicians (AAP), the medical board of the American Lung Association in California, the Scientific Advisory Board of the EPA, and is currently working with the US Congress, the WHO, International Wildfire Policy Group, CUGH, and CA Governor’s office on Global Climate Change emergency preparedness plans. In addition to her above involvements, Dr. Nadeau contributes on multiple editorial boards for high impact journals and to date published over 300 peer-reviewed publications, and is a reviewer for high impact journals in basic science and clinical medicine (Nature, Nature Medicine, Science, Science Translational Medicine, Lancet, NEJM, JAMA, Allergy, JACI). She is also passionate about breaking down health barriers and creating meaningful change for children and adults in underserved areas and has developed outreach and educational programs with partners in East Palo Alto, Inner City Chicago, Harlem, and San Francisco. Yehuda Shoenfeld is the founder and head of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases, at the Sheba Medical Center, which is affiliated to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel-Aviv University, in Israel. Professor Shoenfeld is also the Incumbent of the Laura Schwarz-Kipp Chair for Research of Autoimmune Diseases at the Tel-Aviv University. Professor Shoenfeld’s clinical and scientific works focus on autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, and he has published more than 2000 papers in journals such as New Eng J Med, Nature, Lancet, Proc Nat Acad Scie, J Clin Invest, J Immunol, Blood, FASEB, J Exp Med, Circulation, Cancer and others. His articles have had over 65,000 citations. He has written more than 350 chapters in books, and has authored and edited 35 books, some of which became cornerstones in science and clinical practice, such as "The Mosaic of Autoimmunity", "Infections and Autoimmunity" and the textbook "Autoantibodies" and "Diagnostic criteria of autoimmune diseases", all of which were published by Elsevier and sold thousands of copies. Professor Shoenfeld is on the editorial boards of 43 journals in the field of rheumatology and autoimmunity and is the founder and the editor of the IMAJ (Israel Medical Association Journal) the representative journal of science and medicine in the English language in Israel, and also is the founder and Editor of Autoimmunity Reviews (Elsevier) (Impact factor 8.9) and co-Editor of the Journal of Autoimmunity (Impact factor 8). For the past twenty years Yehuda has been the Editor of “Harefuah” – The Israel journal in medicine (Hebrew). Professor Shoenfeld received the EULAR prize in 2005, in Vienna, Austria: "The infectious etiology of anti-phospholipid syndrome", and received a gold medal from the Slovak Society of Physicians for his contribution to Israel – Slovakia collaboration (March 2006). He is also an honorary member of the Hungarian Association of Rheumatology and the Royal Society of Physicians (UK). In UC Davis, USA, Professor Shoenfeld received the Nelson's Prize for Humanity and Science for 2008. In 2009 he was honoured as Doctoris Honoris Causa, from Debrecen University (Hungary) and Hasselt University in Belgium( 2018) , and from 2009 he is honorary member of the Slovenian National Academy of Sciences. He was recently awarded a Life Contribution Prize in Internal Medicine in Israel, 2012 as well as the ACR Master Award in 2013.In 2018 he was elected to the Israeli Academy of Sciences. Professor Shoenfeld has educated a long list of students with >55 becoming heads of departments and institutes.

Dr. Ruben Abagyan is a Professor in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego, which he joined in 2009. He received his Master’s and Ph.D. degree in molecular physics at MPTI and MSU. At the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, he developed internal coordinate mechanics and structural docking approach (ICM) for modeling and docking. He received his tenure at New York University and Courant Institute of Mathematics and continued at Novartis Functional Genomics Institute and the Scripps Research Institute. Dr. Abagyan serves on international review panels for Institutes in Switzerland, UK, EU and Hong Kong. He received CapCure awards, Princess Diana Award and medal in Sydney, Australia, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year award and UCSD-SSPPS 'Faculty of the Year' awards. R.A. authored and co-authored over 330 research papers and book chapters (H-index 90). His research interests include computational structural biology, methods for structure prediction, docking screens and cheminformatics, with a particular focus on computer-aided drug and target discovery. In addition to molecular profiles, he also studies the FDA clinical records and unexpected post-marketing side effects of therapeutics.

Dr. John D. Schuetz received his Ph.D. in Biochemical Pharmacology/Toxicology from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and completed his postdoctoral training in Cancer Biology also at the Medical College of Virginia. He joined the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as an Assistant Member in 1992. He is currently a Member and Vice Chair of the Department. His main research interests are understanding the role of transporters in normal physiology, pathophysiology, and metabolism. His lab and colleagues were instrumental in functionally defining and “de-orphanizing” ABCB6,ABCG2, and ABCC4. Dr. Schuetz has authored over 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals (H-index: 72). He was nominated to membership in the ASBMB. He is an Associate Editor for the journal Drug Metabolism and Disposition and serves on the editorial board of other journals. Dr. Schuetz has been elected to the AAAS Electorate nominating committee, elected Chair of the Toxicology Division of American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), Councilor to ASPET and was elected as ASPET’s President. He has also been a permanent member of the NIH DMP study section and contributed service as an Ad hoc member on multiple other national and international grant review panels.

Prof. Laurent Charlet received his PhD in Environmental chemistry at the University of California (Riverside, CA, USA) and did postdoctoral training on nanoparticle surface chemistry and toxicity at the Federal Swiss Water Institute (EAWAG-ETHZ) and at the University Bern, Switzerland where he started coupling the surface chemistry approach with spectroscopic techniques. Full Professor at 35, his research has investigated in close collaboration with biologists (INSERM or NanoHealth Institute, Swansea University, UK) the toxicity of nanomaterials (e.g. Ag or ZnO nanowires) and the role of selenium and selenoproteins either in deficiency induced disorders (neurotoxicological effects, infertility, cartilage disease - Keshin Beck disease in China - or thyroid cancer e.g. in Western Algeria) or as potential cure against ovaraian cancer. His group maintains modern environmental and human cell chemistry laboratories, specialized in nanotoxicology. In most projects it makes use of spectro-imaging techniques, by AFM (cell membrane biomechanics) and synchrotron X- ray tomography and spectroscopic techniques (XAFS). Insights provided by Se triggered methylation on epigenetic process, or by molecular simulation (DFT, MD) of spectroscopic data, are critical to a fundamental understanding of nanoparticles reactivity and cancer cell impact. Dr. Charlet is Distinguished Professor at the University of Grenoble, France, invited Professor at UC-Berkeley (USA), EPFL (CH), University of Utrecht (NL), affiliate at LBNL (Berkeley, USA) and Adjunct Professor at University Waterloo (Canada). His group is represented in numerous French and international scientific and funding bodies. Outreach activities include organization of Workshops (International Medical Geology Association) and Conferences (e.g. Goldschmidt Conference). Dr. Charlet has published > 200 papers in peer- reviewed journals (h index: 70). He has been International Research Advisor, University of Grenoble Chancellor Office, and has received numerous prizes including the French IUF senior award, the CNRS Silver medal for Excellence in Research and the Swansea University Honorary Chair.

Dr. Huixiao Hong is the Chief of Bioinformatics Branch, Division of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), working on the scientific bases for regulatory applications of bioinformatics and computational chemistry. Before joining the FDA, he was the Manager of Bioinformatics Division at Z-Tech, an ICFI company, at NCTR. He held a Research Scientist position at Sumitomo Chemical Company in Japan. He was a visiting scientist at National Cancer Institute (NCI) at National Institutes of Health (NIH). He was also an Associate Professor and the Director of Laboratory of Computational Chemistry at Nanjing University in China. Dr. Hong is the member of steering committee of OpenTox, the member of board directors of U.S.MidSouth Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society, and a member of the leadership circle of FDA modeling and simulation working group. He received Ph.D. in computational chemistry from Nanjing University in China in 1990 and followed by conducting research at Maxwell Institute in Leeds University in England in 1990-1992. James Whisstock performed his PhD in bioinformatics and structural biology at the University of Cambridge. In 1997 James moved to Australia and established his group at Monash University. James is currently an ARC Laureate Fellow, Honorary NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow, he is the Scientific Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Advanced Molecular Imaging and he is the Scientific Head of the Australian EMBL partnership. His previous appointments include an ARC Federation Fellowship. In 2019 James was appointed Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow. James was awarded the 2006 Science Ministers prize, the 2008 Health ministers prize and the 2010 Gottschalk medal. James's current research directions include understanding the structure and function of pore forming proteins in immunity and Drosophila development (e.g. Rosado et al., Science 2007. Law et al., Nature 2010). His team further investigates the proteases and their inhibitors that control blood coagulation and wound remodelling. Over the course of his career at Monash, James has further led the development of several key technology platforms, including protein production, eResearch and protein crystallography. Most recently he led the initiative to establish Australia's first most advanced Cryo-Electron Microscopy unit.

I am a laboratory and clinical scientist with a life-long interest in the biochemistry of glutathione-linked enzymes and their role in xenobiotic metabolism, drug/radiation resistance, carcinogenesis, and the etiology of age-linked degenerative disorders. I practice medical oncology and Hematology as the Division Chief of Heme/Onc at the Texas Tech University. I received my MD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1986. I have been faculty at 3 medical schools as well as the Beckman Research Institute at the City of Hope in California. Over a 35 year career I have conducted NIH funded continuously from 1994 till 2016 and am currently funded by the U.S. Department of Defense for studies of the role of p53 and the glutathione-conjugate transporter RALBP1 (RLIP76 protein). My research has been focused on biochemical, molecular biological and clinical studies of xenobiotic metabolic enzymes, chemotherapeutic drug resistance and metabolism and the role of glutathione metabolism in cancer, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, eye disease, and the mechanisms of action of natural product antioxidants. My present focus is on the use of artificial intelligence for analysis of genomic and medical data.

Jürgen Gailer was born in Geislingen and der Steige/Germany in 1967. He obtained his PhD from the University of Graz/Austria in 1997. As an Erwin Schrödinger Fellow he moved to the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of Arizona (Tucson/United States) and subsequently to the Department of Nutritional Sciences as a PDF research associate. As an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow he embarked on another PDF at the GSF National Research Center for Environment and Health (Munich/Germany) in 2001 and became Team Leader in Biopharmaceutical Production at Boehringer Ingelheim Austria/Vienna in 2002. He joined the University of Calgary in 2004, where he is co-appointed in the Department of Chemistry and the BSc Environmental Science Program. His research aims at developing and applying novel instrumental analytical methods to better understand the bioinorganic chemistry of non-essential metal species, such as cadmium and mercury in the bloodstream with the aim to potentially linking this chemistry to the etiology of human diseases. Another research goal is to establish the biomolecular basis of the severe side effects of established metal-based anticancer drugs and to help accelerate more selective metal-based drugs to preclinical studies.

Associate Professor Martin Stone is a researcher and teacher in the Monash University Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. He received his BSc and MSc (Hons) degrees from the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and his PhD from the University of Cambridge (UK). He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Scripps Research Institute in (San Diego, USA) and a faculty member at Indiana University (Bloomington, USA) before moving to Monash in 2007. From 2013-2016 he served as Director of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Science at Monash. Martin’s research program focuses on mechanisms of regulation of chemokines and their receptors, which play critical roles in directing the migration of leukocytes in inflammatory responses. Recently, his lab has made important contributions to understanding the structural basis by which chemokines can differentially activate a shared receptor to elicit distinct cellular outcomes and in characterising a new family of tick proteins (evasins) that suppress host inflammation by inhibiting chemokines.

Dušanka Janežič is full professor of Mathematics in Natural Sciences at the University of Primorska, Koper, Slovenia, research professor of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and was for many years Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Modeling at the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is founder of molecular modeling research in Slovenia with her research group currently ranking as one of the top research groups in the field worldwide. Over the years, she has conducted research in many areas of mathematics in natural sciences and has presented her results in over 130 journal articles and 10 book chapters, as well as two books with over 3000 pure citations in Web of Science database, and h-index 31. One of the Editors at the ACS Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (2001-2014). In 2013, Recipient of Žiga Zois Award (highest form of scientific recognition in Slovenia) for outstanding research achievements in mathematics in natural sciences. In 1999, Recipient of Ambassador in Science of the Republic of Slovenia Award. Since 2013 she has been appointed by the government of Republic of Slovenia as council member of the National Agency of Qualitative Evaluation of Higher Education in Slovenia. She worked in the USA as a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As a Senior Fulbright Scholar she conducted research in the USA at the National Institutes of Health. She worked at the Technical University of Munich, Germany as a DAAD fellow. She has long term expertise in development of new mathematical methods and algorithms used in theoretical research in natural and technical sciences such as chemistry, pharmacy, molecular physics and structural biology. Her current research interests include graph theory development, prediction of protein-protein and protein-ligand binding sites, biomolecular simulations, and the application of these techniques to problems in pharmaceutical research and drug development.

I am excited to work on this project examining the genetic architecture of PM2.5 exposure induced multi-organ toxicity in mice . I have more then thirty years of experience studying studying the genetics of behavior and neurobiology in mice. I was recently funded by the Department of Defense to investigate the genetic basis of neuroinflammation related to combined exposure to organophosphorus compounds and high circulating glucocorticoids. The results were interesting as we found wide, genetic variability in neuroinflammation and in genome-wide transcript response to rthe combined effects of corticosterone diisopropylflurophophosphate. I have also conducted work on the neurotoxicogenetics of MPTP. This funding will help us to realize the development of a program in Toxicogenetics that expoloits a reference geneics panel of more than 150 recombinant inbred mouse strans that segregate at more than 6 million genetic variants. Thus we can conduct systems genetics and systems biology studies on a wide variety of toxicants that affect multipe organ systems.

Saadia Kerdine-Römer has her expertise in immunotoxicology, in the field of skin allergy. She is specialized in skin allergy. She has been working for many years in the activation of dendritic cells by allergenic molecules. She demonstrated with her group that haptens can be real danger signals. Her work is part of the identification of new signaling pathways in immunity cells in response to haptens. She also works since few years on the transcription factor Nrf2 and its link in the inflammatory response of skin allergic origin.

Dr. Masood A. Shammas is a Scientist in Translational Cancer Research, currently working as a Lead Scientist at Harvard (Dana Farber) Cancer Institute, Boston, USA. He completed his doctorate and postdoctoral trainings at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA. From 2001-2006, he worked as Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, USA. From 2006-2009, he worked as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director, Surgical Oncology And Developmental Therapeutics Laboratory at Wayne State University and Karmanos Cancer Institute, Detroit, USA. In 2009, he moved back to Harvard (Dana Farber) Cancer Institute, Boston, USA. He has authored/co-authored ~ 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications and serves or has served as editor, guest editor and/or reviewer for several scientific journals. He also serves as external examiner and consultant for universities abroad. He has trained a number of physicians and scientists who are working as professors or physician scientists in various universities. Prof. Yufeng Jane, Tseng, a medicinal chemist and bioinformatician trained at the University Illinois at Chicago and also the National Center for Biotechnology Information, NIH, before joining National Taiwan University (NTU) at 2016. Prof. Tseng is currently the director of Drug research Center and associate director of neuroscience center at NTU. She is a professor at the graduate institute of bioinformatics and biomedical engineering, department of computer science, school of pharmacy of National Taiwan University. Prof. Tseng’s expertise in AI-assisted drug design and discovery has made rapid progress and showed promising clinical results in novel CNS drug and cardiovascular drug developments. Prof. Tseng's extraordinary effort in drug discovery was recognized with Futuristic Breakthrough Technology Award (Taiwan, 2019, 2017), National Bio-Innovation Award (Taiwan, 2019, and 2016), Novartis Venture Fund Mentorship Grantee (USA, 2016 and 2017), IBM Faculty Award (USA, 2015). Mohamed Salama obtained his Medical Degree in 1999 from Mansoura University, Egypt where he began his clinical training. He then started his post as clinical toxicologist at Mansoura University Poison Control Center. He received his MSc in Toxicology in 2006, and through a DAAD scholarship his PhD degree in Neurotoxicology in 2011 through collaboration with Philipps University in Marburg, Germany. Upon returning to Egypt he realized that there was a large gap between basic neuroscience research and clinical application. He established the first Translational Neuroscience Unit in Egypt. Mohamed’s collaborative research led to establishing the Egyptian Network for Neurodegenerative Disorders (ENND: www.enndeg.com). Mohamed was selected as an SOT Global Senior Scholar in 2013 and Translational/bridging awardee on 2016. He was awarded by Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Foundation (PMDF) for his continuing research in the field of neurodegeneration. Recently, Mohamed and his colleagues succeeded to draft the first Reference Egyptian Genome (https://egyptian-genome.org/) and collaborating with other colleagues to start a national cohort (A Longitudinal Study of Egyptian Health Aging [AL-SEHA]). Currently, Mohamed is Atlantic senior fellow for Equity in brain health at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) and Associate Professor at the Institute of Global Health and Human Ecology in the American University in Cairo (AUC).

Andrea Cavalli is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Bologna and Director of Computational and Chemical Biology at the Italian Istitute of Tecnology, Genova (Italy), where he is also Associate Director for the Research Domain ”Computational Sciences”. He is also Director of the PhD in Data Science and Computation of the University of Bologna. Prof. Cavalli received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Bologna in 1999 and did postdoctoral work at SISSA (Trieste, Italy) and ETH (Zurich, Switzerland). Prof. Cavalli’s research has combined computational chemistry with drug discovery, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and neglected tropical diseases. Recently, he has started research projects in the field of machine learning, combining genomics with clinical data. He has developed and applied algorithms and protocols to accelerate and enhance the discovery of novel lead and drug candidates. In particular, he has been a pioneer in the use of molecular dynamics simulations and related approaches to drug discovery. In an interdisciplinary effort, these approaches led to the identification and characterization of lead candidates within the framework of multitarget drug discovery and polypharmacology. He is an author of more than 250 scientific papers and inventor in several international patents. He has delivered more than 130 invited lectures and seminars at international congresses and prestigious institutions. He is member of the Editorial Board of several international journals, and in 2014 he founded a high-tech startup company (BiKi Technologies) focused on molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling methods for drug discovery. In 2003, he was awarded the Farmindustria Prize for Pharmaceutical Research.

Dr. Matin has been a full professor at Stanford University for several years and is affiliated with several programs, including the Stanford Cancer Research Institute. He has contributed to many areas of biological research, including discovery of new drugs and therapeutic enzymes and their improvement as well as their specific targeting to cancer (and other diseases). He did his Ph. D. at UCLA, spent some years in the Netherlands (State University of Groningen), where he directed a research group, before joining Stanford. Franck Molina, PhD First class Director of research at CNRS, Director of public private laboratory Sys2Diag (CNRS/ALCEN). During his studies at the University of Montpellier France, Franck Molina has been crossing disciplines from physics, computing sciences to experimental biology. During his PhD he combined experimental biology with biocomputing approaches in order to better understand complex autoimmune disorders. In 1996, he worked in the Prof. Sir Tom Blundell’ group in Cambridge University, UK. There he performs biophysics and biocomputing analyses for drug discovery. After, been recruited at CNRS in 1999, he initiated pioneer projects on emerging systems biology and started a new integrated biology group in CNRS Montpellier, France. His original views on biological elementary processes (functions) modelling was distinguished by the bronze medal from CNRS in 2004. Since 2007, Franck Molina was involved in early developments of synthetic biology applied on health sciences. Next to his academic activities, he experienced around 25 years of close relationships with industrial research. These interactions led to original works patented and under current exploitations. He created in 2007 Sys2Diag an interdisciplinary institute (math, computing, chemistry, physics, experimental biology) devoted to research and innovation in medical diagnosis mixing academic (CNRS) and industrial forces (Bio-Rad, ALCEN). He is co-founder of start-up in biotechnology, in particular SkillCell, developing biomachimes for biomarkers detection. He was formerly Clinical Assistant Professor, Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado-Denver, Denver, Colorado, USA and held prior academic positions as Clinical Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, as well as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Colorado Health Sciences, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Hall was formerly Research Assistant Professor, Division of Medical Toxicity, Department of Emergency Medicine, Texas Tech Health Science Center-El Paso, Texas. Dr. Timothy B. Erickson is an emergency medicine physician at Mass General Brigham in Boston, MA, USA and Division Chief of Medical Toxicology. He is also faculty at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI). His areas of academic expertise include environmental toxicology, crisis in climate change, wastewater epidemiology, CBRN training, and acute injuries in global conflict settings.

He was born in 1986 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Got his bachelor in biochemistry in 2009, and his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry in 2012 both in Universidad de la República. Currently, he is working as Professor at Universidad de la República. He is the Principal Investigator of the Bioactive Molecules Lab. The mind areas of expertise are infectious diseases in animal and human health. He wrote more than twenty research articles in drug discovery. He describes more than five molecules with successful results in animal models of the respective disease, such as Chagas, Leishmaniasis, and Fascioliasis. Other areas of research are antiviral drug development for HIV, RSV, Influenza, antineoplastic drug, acaricidal drug.

Maria Teresa Cruz has a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1991) from the University of Lisbon, a master in Drug Technologies (1996) and a PhD in Pharmacology (2004) from the University of Coimbra. She is assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Researcher at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra (CNC), being Group Leader at CNC (Cell Signaling and Metabolism in Disease) and Principal Investigator of the research line “Innate Immunity in Inflammatory Pathologies”. Maria Teresa Cruz is a European Registered Toxicologist, granted by EUROTOX and has participated in national and international funded projects (34 projects), being the researcher responsible for 14. She published 6 book chapters and 157 articles in SCI indexed journals, supervised or co-supervised 11 PhD students, 21 master thesis and 2 pos-docs presenting an h-index of 30 with 6000 citations, according to the Web of Science. The research developed has focused mainly on the molecular mechanisms involved in peripheral and neuroinflammation and on the development of methodologies to evaluate the ability of natural and industrial chemicals to modulate innate immunity. She was involved in the creation of a spin-off from the UC, Toxfinder, which mission is the development of new non-animal toxicity tests to ensure the toxicological safety of chemical compounds before their use, thus guaranteeing the protection of human health and minimizing the risks of exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.

Dr. Traore completed his PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Howard University, Washington DC, and post-doctoral studies in toxicology at Johns Hopkins University. He is now at Campbell University as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at The School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Traore has published numerous papers and received several research funding grants from NIH. The focus of Dr. Traore’s research is in the area toxicology and aging related to altered steroid hormone synthesis, including endocrine pathologies, male reproductive disorders, and cancer. His work has led to better understanding of the mechanism phthalate induced inhibition of steroidogenesis in testis. He has used biochemical, pharmacological, cellular, and molecular methods as well as in vitro and in vivo functional studies in animal models to study the role of reactive oxygen species, and redox signaling in the mechanism of actions of environmental toxicants and pharmaceutical drugs.

Dr. Abdulrahman Ibrahim is a Los Angeles, California native with a special interest in precision medicine and computational toxicology. He obtained his BSc degree in Chemistry at UC Irvine (2007) and PhD in Computational Toxicology with a Concentration in Human Embryonic Stem Cell Biology from UC Irvine School of Medicine under Professor Ronald Shank, Ph.D. (2012). As part of his post-doctoral training at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Ibrahim earned his MAS degree in Clinical Research Management and further refined his research to develop a novel pipeline for the safety-risk-assessment and prediction of statin drugs in minority populations. In 2015, Dr. Ibrahim proudly served the UC Irvine Public Health Program as Adjunct Assistant Professor. Subsequently in 2016, Dr. Ibrahim joined the US Food and Drug Administration, Center for Tobacco Products, to help evaluate the effect of tobacco product constituents in vulnerable populations. Today, Dr. Ibrahim is grateful to be part of the Ochsner Clinical School M.D. program in New Orleans and is looking forward to dedicating his career to the harmonization of drug discovery standards for the benefit of underserved groups such as children, underrepresented minority groups, and the elderly.

Dr. Le Questel is Professor of Physical Chemistry since 2006. He is presently the head of the “ModEling and Spectroscopy” (ModES) group of the CEISAM laboratory (UMR CNRS 6230) of Nantes University. His research has been focussed on the elucidation and quantification of molecular interactions (in particular hydrogen and halogen bonding) geometries and energies through experimental methods (IR spectrometry, structural database analyses) and computational chemistry calculations, with a particular emphasis on the analysis of the properties of small–molecule biological ligands. Yann Guéguen (PhD, HDR, h-index 20, male) is a head group researcher at IRSN from 2004 as an experimental biologist and toxicologist. His research focuses on nephrotoxic and carcinogenic effect of ionizing radiation and chemicals at the molecular, cellular and systemic level, with particular emphasis on uranium, cesium and tritium. She has been head of the animal facility of the Faculty of Health Sciences for more tan 10 years and she is beginning her career as researcher at the same institution working with animal models for toxicological evaluations.

Dr. Adam D. Thomas is a senior lecturer of human genetic and genomics at UWE, Bristol and an early career researcher with interests in the response of cells to genotoxic exposures and the direction of DNA damage signalling to dictate this response and affect cell fate. Adam obtained his PhD from the DNA damage research group at Swansea University in 2012 and since then, has worked as postdoctoral research associates in Germany, under the guidance of Professor Bernd Kaina at the Institut für Toxikologie, and Cardiff University before taking up the tenured post at UWE, Bristol.

Raphael has close to 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. He attained a M.Sc. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel, and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. After completing two postdoctoral positions in the US Air Force Research Lab in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and in Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, and performing molecular modeling in a startup biotech company, in 2003 Raphael joined the Medicinal Chemistry department at Teva Pharmaceuticals and in 2010 he established the Chemical & Computational Toxicology group which he currently heads. Hedi Ben Mansour is a director of the Research Unit of Analysis and Process Applied to the Environment APAE- UR17ES32. He has received many awards, appreciations, and recognition for many international organizations such the award of the young Francophone researchers in Sciences and Medicine (Sao Paulo Brézil in 2013). Currently, he is a consultant at several international organizations including ARSCO, AUF… He is visiting professor of some European university and he holds life memberships of various international organizations and is an active participant in national and international scientific events. Currently Prof Ben Mansour is engaging in studying the investigation of causes and the consequences of water pollution by micro pollutants (plasticizers, pharmaceutical residues, textile dyes, endocrine disruptors, etc.). He has won numerous awards such as: the best scientific publication "Academus" (2019), winner in the category " Discovery of the Year "of the publishing house "Knorus" (2019), the best scientific publication "Academus" in the category "Economics and Management "(2020), rector’s Award 2020 (Financial University).

Dr. Erdoğan has a PhD in Chemistry (2013), İzmir Institute of Technology. She has been working as a Senior Scientist at the Chromatography and Spectroscopy Laboratory, EGE MATAL-Ege University since 2014. She has specialized in the field of microalgal biotechnology, food chemistry, analytical chemistry, and forensic science. Moreover, she is an expert in chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques for the identification and determination of bioactive compounds. She has involved in several national and international projects regarding the microalgal biotechnology, mainly focused on carotenoids. She has been nominated as Member of Committee (MC) in different COST Actions including CA18238 (Ocean4Biotech) and CA15136 (EUROCAROTEN) related with microalgal biotechnology and carotenoids. She continues working in this field and manages a COST Project since 2017 about the isolation of novel carotenoids from microalgae and exploring its anti-cancer activities and wound healing potentials.

Prof. Dr. Hanem Khater is a Professor of Parasitology at Benha University, Egypt, and an academic author, reviewer, editor, and writer. She is interested in novel approaches to pest management. She studied in USA for her doctoral degree, at the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, University of Missouri- Columbia, USA. She completed her Ph.D. degrees in Parasitology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University, Benha Branch, Egypt. She got the award of the Best Scientific PhD Dissertation, Newton- Mosharafa Travel Grant, and Publons' global Peer Review Award. She worked as a scientific reviewer for Newton- Mosharafa Program in 2018 and Reviewer for the Central Department of Missions - Ministry of Higher Education, Egypt, for PhD and fellowship proposals and interviewing candidates, 2020-. She published several scientific papers, internationally, in reefed journals in addition to several chapters in textbooks. She focused in her researches on natural control of pests of medical, veterinary, and agricultural importance such as mosquitoes, house flies, lice, green bottle fly, camel nasal botfly, soft and hard ticks, mites, and the diamondback moth to avoid environmental pollution with pesticides as well as control of several parasites using safe and natural materials to avoid drug resistance and environmental contamination. She attended and presented research papers in many national and international symposia and conferences. Moreover, she is the Egyptian PI of the African European collaborative research on Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture and on Food and Nutrition Security. dis project entitled “Ecosmart Alternative Control Strategies against Theileria annulata and its Tick Vectors”, Acronym (MeTVAC) received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 727715. She is the PI of a project funded by the Science and Technology Development (STDF) Egypt, for Pollution- Control Grant, titled: " (Eco-friendly Pesticides against Pests of Medical, Veterinary, and Agricultural Importance) ID: (41608) for two years, 2020-. Furthermore, she is a member of the project “ Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle and Development of Sustainable Pest Management Tools” funded by the Science and Technology Development (STDF) Egypt, for 2 years, 2020-. She is working in the field of public awareness since 2007. She had a strong public commitment and got the Professional diploma of “Arab women leaders, internationally and regionally”, 2021. She is a member of “The Afro Asian union for international law and Dispute's settlement”. In addition, she got several training courses in human resources development, and computers, and English (In Egypt and USA). She is easing science to the public and the leading editor of the open- access book “Natural Remedies in the Fight Against parasites” published by InTech, Croatia.
