Dr. Blazar has made innumerable contributions to the field of transplantation immunology and stem cell biology. His research has focused on designing strategies to reduce blood and bone marrow transplant complications. His lab is currently working on developing new therapies that prevent and treat acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a donor anti-host immune reaction resulting in inflammation and cell-mediated destruction (acute GVHD), or later after transplant resulting in autoimmune-like manifestations and fibrosis (chronic GVHD). Dr. Blazar’s early contributions to preventing acute GVHD included preclinical modeling of commonly used immunosuppressant drugs as well as CTLA4-Ig, a recombinant fusion protein that blocks the specific T cell immune response to host antigens. The latter recently became the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drug for acute GVHD prophylaxis. In more current chronic GVHD studies, he discovered that donor germinal center B cells that produce anti-host antibodies work in concert with macrophages to cause chronic GVHD. His lab’s paradigm-shifting research in preclinical chronic GVHD modeling contributed to each of the three FDA-approved chronic GVHD drugs.

Dr. Felgner’s work is rooted in biophysics, structure, and hydrodynamic properties of bilayer membranes conducted at the University of Virginia. In 1984 there were no positively charged bilayer forming lipids available in nature to prepare positively charged lipid vesicles. He collaborated with chemists at Syntex Research Institute to synthesize and characterize a series of positively charged bilayer forming lipids. When these vesicles interact with negatively charged nucleic acid the lipids and the nucleic acid reorganize together into a new structure, he called Lipoplex capturing 100% of the input nucleic acid. Lipoplexes are synthetic virus-like particles that deliver functional nucleic acid into cultured cells and ‘Lipofection’ has since become the most widely used in vitro transfection method. Felgner published highly cited reports showing functional gene transfer of plasmid DNA and mRNA into mouse muscle in vivo. This work spawned a separate field of nucleic acid vaccine science which culminated in the COVID LNP mRNA vaccines. Currently Felgner is Director of the University of California Irvine Vaccine R&D Center. There he developed a protein microarray platform to measure vaccine induced antigen specific antibody levels against thousands of individual antigens from dozens of bacteria, parasites and viruses. At the beginning of the COVID outbreak his Coronavirus Antigen Microarray was poised to measure SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine induced Ab levels against dozens of respiratory virus antigens. He has 50 issued US patents, is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, and recipient of the Robert Koch Award for infectious disease and vaccine science, and the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research. His work chronicles a remarkable period of non-viral nucleic acid delivery and vaccine science, breaking the mRNA tabu, and culminating in the phenomenal success of mRNA vaccines important to the world today.

KP Chang received his BS in 1965 from the Department of Entomology, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, his M.A. in 1968 and his PhD in 1972 in Microbiology & Cell Biology from Department of Biology, Ontario State University of Guelph, Canada. Paco Pino, PhD, is the Head of R&D at ExcellGene, based in Monthey, Switzerland. At the company, he is applying science and cutting-edge technology to support process science services. Prior to working at ExcellGene since 2018, he started working at the University of Geneva in 2007 and, in 2013, was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Medicine. Before 2013, he spent three years as a postdoc at Imperial College London, developing genetic tools to study malaria parasites. He earned his Ph.D., in cerebral malaria resulting from Plasmodium falciparum infection, from the University of Paris, France. Recently, during the COVID pandemic years, he has helped in advancing the science of SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein; His team is involved in several vaccine development programs from molecules design to clinic, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed articles in Process, Biochemistry, Int J Mo Sci, and Spectrum.

Dr. Kuraoka is a cellular immunologist, Assistant Research Professor in Immunology at Duke University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Biochemistry at the University of Tokyo, followed by postdoctoral research works at National Institutes of Infectious Diseases in Japan, and then at Duke University. He has a broad background in immunology with specific expertise and experience on B-lymphocyte biology. He developed high-throughput single B-cell culture approach to study humoral responses to infection and vaccination in mice, humans, and non-human primates. His research focuses on understanding 1) diversification of B-cell repertoire in humoral responses against vaccinations or viral infections (e.g., HIV, HSV, Influenza) and 2) regulation of B-cell development and immune tolerance in health and disease.

Rok Sekirnik graduated in Chemistry at University of Oxford, where he also completed his PhD. He has worked in the areas of mAb, vaccine and gene therapy vector development in various roles, including Principal Scientist at Novartis and Project Manager at Batavia Biosciences. His team at BIA Separations, now a Sartorius company is working on developing high yielding, cost-effective purification approaches for pDNA and mRNA production.

Francesco Paolo Bianchi was born in Putignano (Italy) on 1987, 29 October. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Bari School of Medicine in 2015; in 2019, he achieved post-degree in Public Health at Bari University and advanced course in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at “Cattolica” Rome University. Since May 2022, he is tenured Senior Physician at the Epidemiology Unit of Bari Policlinico General University Hospital; he is a member of Professor Silvio Tafuri’s research team at the Interdisciplinary Department of Medicine of University of Bari, as expert of biostatistics applied to epidemiology. He is author of more than 80 articles published in international scientific journals (hindex: 12) and more than 50 contributes to international and national conferences; most of scientific papers and contributes are in the field of vaccinology and prevention of infectious diseases.

Prof. Pere-Joan Cardona is chief of the Microbiology Department at the Hospital “Germans Triasi Pujol” of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) and Professor at the UniversitatAutònoma de Barcelona. He is a clinical microbiologist that has devoted 25 years in discerning the mechanisms that allow latent tuberculosis infection and those that lead to the development of active TB. To do so, he founded the Experimental Tuberculosis Unit at the IGTP Research Institute, developing several “in vivo” and “in silico” experimental models, which led to the invention of the RUTI therapeutic vaccine and the use of host-directed therapies against TB. He is also involved in the use of the properties of environmental mycobacteria to balance the immune response against several diseases. He has an extensive experience in leading clinical trials to address new approaches for the development of new tools in diagnosis, prophylaxis and therapy of TB, and has collaborated in several international consortiums focused on the TB study.

Dr Md Nazmul Huda is a social epidemiologist and researcher with expertise in mixed-method research. His research projects aim to explore the intersecting health disadvantages of marginalised communities and their role in promoting the sexual, reproductive, and mental health of marginalised populations, including older people, indigenous communities, refugees, and migrant populations. Huda’s projects address health inequalities using multi-level interventions. He published 32 research articles [1 book chapter, 1 paper in Encyclopedia and 30 articles) in high-ranking international journals (BMC Psychiatry, BMC Psychology, Psychogeriatrics Journal, BMJ Global Health, Scientific Reports, BMJ Open, Frontiers in Public Health, and Human Vaccines &Immunotherapeutics), 7 media articles and 1 report. Dr Huda and his teams received grants from Western Sydney University, Green Univesit of Bangladesh, Save the Children and the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Action Aid. Dr Huda obtained a PhD in Public Health and Health Sociology from the University of New South Wales, Australia. His cutting-edge PhD research facilitated a better understanding of interventions needed to solve HIV transmission problems and improve the critical population’s sexual health. Earlier, he did a Bachelor of Social Sciences (by research) and Master of Social Sciences in Sociology/Health Sociology (by research) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr Huda is an experienced researcher, lecturer and academic with excellent teaching evaluation by students: (94 out of 100). For example, he has worked as a full-time lecturer/senior lecturer in Health Sociology and sessional lecturer/academic in Public Health at various institutions in Australia (University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, Australian Catholic University and Southern Cross Education Institute) and Bangladesh (Green University and Independent University in Bangladesh) for nearly six years.

In charge of pharmacovigilance of vaccine since 1999 until now with a university diploma of vaccinology in France in 2000 . Head of pharmacovigilance department since 2015 until December 2022. Présidente of morroccan pharmacovigilance society between 2018-2022 member of CIOMS vaccines working group from 2015 to 2018 and member in CIOMS working group for covid 19 vaccines in 2020 member of Brighton collaboration, and scientific advisory board in the PROFORMA project since 2019 until now for strengthening the national pharmacovigilance system in East African countries . Involved in pharmacovigilance and in Pharmacovigilance of vaccines training, system assessment and developing project in collaboration with WHO , CDC, global Found and others partners.

Dr Umema has been teaching physiology for the last 10 years.She currently works as an associate professor in the Physiology Department at Rehman Medical Institute. She has done MPhil in Physiology and is currently perusing PhD in Physiology. Dr Umema has been awarded the 2022 Research Recognition Award by American Physiological Society. She is also the Vice President of the South Asian Association of Physiologists (SAAP). Alongside teaching she has also been involved in research.She has presented at various national and international platforms and has also coauthored three books.She devised a formula for predicting height on basis of age, gender and hand size.Much of her work is on teachings ofPhysiology. To begin with she gauged the effectiveness of taking an entry test before admittance in medical school. She also conducted research on problem-based learning (PBL) system by comparing academic performance of two medical schools. The pupils of the school with PBL teaching in curriculum showed a drastic improvement in performance as they progressed. She has also been part of a mixed method research to assess the educational environment of a medical school both qualitatively and quantitatively. Another study measured the effect of handedness on academic performance and it was proved that there is no relation between the two. She has worked on elaborating the gender differences in the autonomic control of the cardiovascular system. Most recently Dr Umema has been working on developing a novel tool for gauging brain’s health.

Silvio Tafuri was born in Brindisi (Italy) on 1980, 17 August. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Bari School of Medicine in 2005, In 2008, he achieved post-degree in Public Health, and in 2013, he obtained a Ph.D. in Hygiene, Public Health and Food Safety. He is a consultant with the Apulian Observatory for Epidemiology in the field of vaccination strategies, surveillance of infectious diseases and adverse events following immunization. From 2014 to March 2020, he has served as Assistant Professor of Public Health at the Bari School of Medicine, and from March 2020 to April 2021, as Associate Professor of Public Health. Since April 2021, he has served as a Full Professor of Public Health. He works as a consultant in the Public Health Unit of the Policlinico Bari General Hospital, in which he is charged with the management of vaccination activities; since March 2020, he has worked as Chief of the COVID19 Control Room Unit. He is the author of 270 articles, published in international scientific journals (IF >650, h-index 26); the most of his scientific papers focus on the field of vaccinology and the prevention of infectious diseases.

My name is Daniel Workineh Aynew (Dr.) from East Africa, Ethiopia and I have MSc degree in Veterinary vaccinology from Pan African University Life and Earth Science Institute (PAULESI), University of Ibadan and the second MSc in Veterinary Microbiology from University of Gondar (UoG). I have considerable research experience and practical knowledge in vaccinology, virus and bacterial isolation, cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques, vaccine development, vaccine quality test and also have experience in working with laboratory animals. I also participated and certified in different trainings and workshops. In addition, I have four publications and two papers were submitted for publication.

Dr.KoustavSarkar has completed his PhD at the age of 31 years from Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute/Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Currently, he is the research assistant professor in department of Biotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. He presented papers in more than 50 national and international conferences. Dr. Sarkar has been involved in research over the last twenty years (including a Ph.D. and three Post-Docs) and made several important contributions to the development of advanced science and technology. He was involved in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the development of human immune responses in health & disease. Dr. Sarkar has already published 46 high-impact scientific publications in internationally reputed journals. He was also co-author of four book chapters. During PhD., Dr. Sarkar has developed a process for isolating glycoprotein(s) from neem leaf, which has immunomodulatory and cancer preventive functions. One patent (Patent Number: 259434; Grant Date: 12-Mar-2014) has been granted for this invention. He found out that the neem leaf glycoprotein helped to generate carcinoembryonic antigen specific anti-tumor immune responses utilizing macrophage & dendritic cell mediated antigen presentation to T and B cells and the induction of type 1 protective immunity. To study the intricate molecular mechanisms involved in the type 1 protective immunity, Dr. Sarkar moved to USA. Research from his US laboratory was essential in revealing for the first time a novel nuclear function for a well known cytoskeleton structure associated protein, Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome Protein (WASp) in the transcriptional regulation of T helper cell 1 (Th1)-differentiation through its effect on epigenetic modifications at the T-BET gene-promoter locus. Since that time, Dr. Sarkar has been actively involved in further understanding how different biomolecules are associated to develope the protective type-1 immunity during the cancer vaccine development.
